Private Tented Event with The Catered Affair | Boston Event Photography

June 8, 2012

It’s not every day we get to go to a party like this!

Guests had no idea what they were in for when the evening began, but they did know something unique was about to happen. The invitations asked guests to arrive at the Meadowbrook School in Weston at 5:30pm (with a note that said “Don’t be late”).

Daisy baskets and balloons adorned each table, and drink tickets were passed out to the guests as they arrived. A DJ was playing classic cliché party songs (like the conga) and a full buffet table was set (or so it appeared that way). There was just one thing – it was all for show, and this wasn’t the party!

After about 30 mins of cocktail hour it was time to let a night of surprises begin, starting with a grand entrance by Richard Simmons to kick things off! Richard and a flash mob of dancers (who had been posing as wait staff during cocktail hour) got the crowd going to Party Rock Anthem. When the song ended, he announced “Wait a minute you guys – this isn’t the party! Come on, follow me!”… The guests headed outside and were given small champagne bottles as they loaded up in vans for destination unknown.

The motorcade finally stopped on the runway at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. The cars pulled up to a hanger with a large custom tent alongside it. The tent was divided into several rooms, starting with a vibrant, colorful cocktail reception. Designer Marc Hall commented that “the design inspiration for the night was piloted by the passion the clients have for intense color”, and it definitely showed.

For this space, custom fabric treatments including the large lampshade over the bar, acrylic tables and caviar station, 5′ tall orange velvet diamond tufted banquettes and 5′ tall diamond shaped mirror vases we all custom made for the client. Every detail from the origami place cards to the color shirts and ties of the staff was hand picked to go with each color scheme adding to the wow factor of the design!

After cocktails, guests were led through a fabric lit blue corridor into the dining room. Draped fabric ceilings, dramatic lighting by PORT Lighting Systems, tables and chairs filled with even more custom decor and stunning floral arrangements took everyone’s breath away.

As dinner service was perfectly executed by the team at The Catered Affair (who also coordinated and produced the event), the guests enjoyed another surprise — a private concert performance by Partridge Family star David Cassidy! David was a big hit, especially when he sang “I Think I Love You”.  The night was still far from over!

A journey through another beautifully draped area of the tent led the party guests to their final destination for the evening which took place inside the airplane hanger itself.  Brand new white luxury pod seating with pearl banquettes and ottomans from PBD Events filled the space and popped against the black walls and flooring with purple and blue spot lighting by East Coast Lighting.

Once all the guests had made it in, it was time for the final surprise of the night to be unveiled – an actual Live Nation concert! A 60 foot tall section of fabric dropped to reveal a full scale stage. Behind the curtain – Bon Jovi!!! The band performed to perfection for 100+ guests and with so much energy in the room, the band even came back for a 15 minute encore! Everyone who was part of this unbelievable event had an amazing night to remember and we are so thrilled we were there to capture it all!
